This is our story…

In early January 2008, we set off on an adventure to Africa, hoping to volunteer in a rural setting that had great need. We were unaware how much our lives were about to be changed. We decided to go to Africa on our own agenda, without any affiliation with an organization; just two 24 year olds from Stratford, Ontario trying to make a difference.

We flew into Zambia, in the Southern region of Africa, without knowing what languages were spoken, what the cultural norms were or even where it was on a map. After three days of making contacts, we received a phone call from the Director of a small Zambian aid organization based in Kitwe. When we asked her when we could start volunteering, she responded “yesterday”.

She informed us of the great need in the rural areas when it comes to education and health care. Our mission was unfolding in front of us. Three days later we were dropped off on the side of the road in a rural village called Kibombomene. It had no running water or electricity. While living in the village, it was apparent that they were being denied a human right that we often take for granted - education.

We developed the Same World Same Chance project with the central intention to build a sustainable high school and health clinic for orphaned and vulnerable youth. However, there is much more beyond the obvious and we are moving directly ahead motivated by the power of love. We are no longer only trying to make a difference; we are embarking on a journey that will change the world.
